The garden is a new passion
Gardening is one of my free time hobbies, which allows me to relax after intense work. My experience as a gardener counts five years. I said before that I would never do something like that. Never say never! The first flowers bloomed in the garden in the spring of 2019, these were tulips planted on the construction site 😊 The original garden project was born in 2018. together with Lina Puodžiūte Ragauskienė, and then the garden journey continued with daily experimentation and learning, changing one plant for another, implementing new ideas. The plot has challenges, the water tables are high, there is a lot of clay, some places get wet, so there is enough room to learn. I share more stories from my garden on my Instagram profile @jt_dream_garden.

Trees are the life of the yard
A yard without trees is hard to imagine. It’s worth mentioning a few that bring life and color to the garden in autumn. They can be used as accent plants in the garden or in combination with other plants.
Japanese ornamental tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum). A tree that pleases in summer and early autumn with its beautiful heart-shaped green leaves, which take on beautiful yellow shades in autumn. Even the grown ornamental tree smells like delicious caramel as it changes color.
Japanese rowan ‘Dodong’ (A mixed drink). The green, feathery leaves turn bright orange and red in autumn and are adorned with clusters of red berries. Even after the leaves have fallen, the berries remain as a beautiful decoration, but this is what attracts birds to taste them. The berries are also suitable for human consumption.
Japanese larch ‘Diana’ (Larch kaempferi). The soft needles turn bright yellow in autumn. And when the needles fall in late autumn, its unusual «curly» branches open. Even the most mature trees are decorated with small pine cones.
Bell plants are a fashionable element of the flower garden
Bluebells are one of the most popular plants in modern gardens. Their beauty is revealed when you plant the plants in groups, not individually. Bell-bellied plants with panicles fluttering in the wind create a wonderful «waving» picture of the flower garden. Some of the most successful ones in my garden are described below.
Chinese miscellaneous. I grow ‘Rossi’. This is one of the largest bell plants, which will not go unnoticed in the flower garden. Autumn is the most beautiful time for miscanthus, because then they spread their elegant, soft tassels. The large tassels of miscanthus are decorated from a pink hue in early autumn to a silvery gray in the second half of autumn. The leaves are painted in various shades of yellow in autumn. Miscanthus brushes are a wonderful element not only in the yard, but also in autumn bouquets. An undemanding plant, it also grows on heavy and humid soils.
Thornyiedrui lendrunai. I grow one of the most popular: «Karl Foerster». Tall and graceful chero decorates flowerbeds in autumn quite early with the golden color of straw.
Korean landrunai. A very decorative autumn flowering garden plant. Keras wears soft brownish bristles, which turn silver as autumn advances. Catching the evening or morning sun among the soft gorse makes for a mesmerizing sight. Brooms look special when decorated with dew drops or frost.
Sisters. An extraordinarily beautiful plant with soft gray bracts. These gray brushes have a particularly beautiful brownish appearance when frosted.
Autumn monthlitas. It is a semi-evergreen plant that grows in compact tufts. It likes fresh greenery, in autumn it is decorated with small whitish brushes. Perfect for filling gaps between taller plants or planting at the front of a flower bed.

Flowering plants with names for autumn
In autumn in the flower garden you not only want colorful leaves and bell-shaped plants, but also flowers that attract the eye. The selection of autumn flowers is smaller than the summer one, but each year I discover new ones that complement the existing beds. Special plants, whose inflorescences remain decorative even in late autumn and winter, please with their structure and shape.
Brush the hydrangeas – a plant that has become so popular for a reason. Wonderful inflorescences enrich flowerbeds with different shapes and changing shades: from white to pink or dark cherry. As autumn advances, hydrangea inflorescences take on brownish shades and a well-preserved structure and please until spring. A fantastic plant for creating dried flower bouquets.
Kemerai. This is one of the largest flowering plants. In early autumn, flower gardens are decorated with huge, massive clouds of pink flowers. At the peak of flowering it gives off a pleasant sweet aroma. I also have a name for the flowering period of kemera: «kemerėja garden» 😊. As autumn progresses, the color of the flowers gradually changes to brownish shades, but they keep their shape perfectly until spring and look wonderful when frosted. An undemanding plant, it grows even in heavy and humid soils.
Astrai. The selection of asters is very large, with a wide variety of heights and colors. So far I grow only a couple of varieties in my beds: Eric’s asters and the compact ‘Island Samoa’. These are the plants whose variety I will definitely expand. Asters delight in perhaps the brightest flowers in autumn flower gardens. Although the rings are small, they capture attention with their shapes and colors.
Late autumn. The flowers resemble crocuses, but bloom not in spring, but in autumn. Different varieties delight with flowers of different shapes. It is an interesting plant, because in autumn it no longer has leaves, and produces flowers only from bare earth.
Astrantia, acid. These are not typical autumn plants, they begin to flower in summer, but the flowers last a long time, until autumn frosts. In flower gardens, these are excellent filler plants, diversifying autumn combinations with flower colors. It grows well in heavy, moist soil.
