Rough, chapped lips are common in winter. Dry heating air and cold temperatures can dry out the sensitive skin on your lips. We’ve developed a great, simple recipe for making your own rich, all-natural lip balm. It goes wonderfully with the Advent season and is also a great gift idea for Christmas. We’ll tell you how to make it in this blog post.
Make your own lip balm – preparation
Before you start, you should get some tubes of lip balm or use small jars or jars that are briefly sterilized with hot water or steam and then dried completely. The lip balm will be put here later.

Ingredients for lip balm
You need:
Coconut oil-free alternative (just use double the amount of jojoba oil here)
The Christmas aroma comes mainly from honey and vanilla or tonka beans. The lip care has a hint of vanilla crescents on the lips. Coconut oil also provides a coconut flavor. If you don’t like the coconut flavor at Christmas and associate it more with summer, you can leave out the coconut oil and double the amount of jojoba oil instead. For the alternative you need:
- 10 g of beeswax
- 10 g of cocoa butter
- 20 g Jojoba Beer
- 10 g of honey
- a little vanilla or tonka bean of your choice

Our self-designed newsletter appears once a quarter Wild Herbs Magazine (available here). You get it in a print and digital version. Depending on your reading habits, we have your favorites to choose from. In addition to seasonal themes, you will also find suitable recipes there. You can buy magazines in our shop www.die-moderne-Kräuterhexe.de

Prepare the lip balm
First the wax is melted in a water bath, then the remaining ingredients are gradually added. The vanilla pulp can be carefully scraped out with a knife and added at the end. If you like the vanilla flavor but don’t want to spend a lot of money on a real vanilla stick, you can rub tonka beans as an economical alternative. This works best with a small kitchen grater.
We buy our spices, dried herbs and baking ingredients from the Achterhof. There is a huge choice at a great price, much cheaper than the local supermarket. With our discount code kraeuterkeller10 save 10% on your entire order. Get the tonka bean Here at the Achterhof. Advertising.

Homemade lip care already smells wonderful. When it is no longer too hot but is still liquid, it can be poured into the designated containers or lip balm tubes. The lid should only be screwed on after it has cooled down, otherwise condensation may form and the care product may become moldy.

How can ingredients take care of our lips?
A lip care product based on honey, jojoba oil, cocoa butter and coconut oil ensures a fantastic coconut aroma on the lips, is completely natural and cares for the particularly sensitive skin of the lips without drying it out. Honey has also been popular for chapped lips for hundreds of years. Jojoba oil can also regulate the hydrolipidic balance of the skin and contains fatty acids similar to those in our skin. Jojoba oil also contains a particularly high amount of vitamin E. The combination creates a wonderfully scented, completely natural lip care that also makes a great gift.

Notes on durability
You should pay special attention to hygiene when caring for your lips and it is best to boil the jars first. We recommend making only small quantities as it doesn’t last long. Homemade lip balm lasts about three to four weeks at room temperature.
Beegut beeswax
Don’t know a local beekeeper? No problem! At beegut you will find not only beeswax but also other natural bee products. By purchasing from beegut you also support the protection of honey bees. With the discount code Herb cellar10 get here in the beegut shop a 10% discount on your purchase. Advertising.
Refine with essential oils
If you want to enhance your lip care with other essential oils, use only pure essential oils that do not irritate the skin. I also like to use a few drops of baking oil. This way you can add even more winter aromas to your lip care. But the basic recipe is also very aromatic. Honey, vanilla and cocoa butter are great in a lip balm. We hope you enjoy making copies and giving them away.
But we also have other sets, such as our children’s discovery books.Ben and Mara discover the world of wild herbs“(available here) AND «Ben and Mara discover the wild forest“(available here).
