Chaenomeles is an easy plant to care for, without too many demands on soil or pruning. It is therefore a shrub with an important visual impact but which requires a low level of maintenance. Despite this, it is right to go and find out what its ideal conditions are, so let’s get to work immediately!

Exposure

Another problem is, as we said before, chlorosis which causes the yellowing of the leaves, in this case the cause is to be found in the excessively alkaline soil.

Its leaves they grow after flowering and as soon as they emerge they are brownish in color while as they grow they become bright green.

Since the end of March produce pink-red-orange flowers which bloom for a couple of months and are very reminiscent of apple tree flowers. They bloom in small clusters, scattered along leafless branches.

The thick and thorny growth of this plant makes it ideal for multiple uses but the most suitable are as decoration along the edges or as a «barrier» between one garden and another.
