The end of summer is not always synonymous with sadness, on the contrary! Gardening in autumn will be a great opportunity to breathe new life into the garden.

The autumn colors are shining and it’s up to you to take advantage of them to give yours garden a small touch of modernity and joy.

Fiery foliage and colorful flowers – take inspiration from our five easy-to-create designs to permanently beautify your home environment.

Gardening in autumn, everything you need to know to get started?

For a successful effect, choose your flowering plants in budsthey will flower longer. Growing in pots is not difficult if you follow these few instructions:

  • Choose pots with perforated bottoms and provide a bed of clay balls or gravel to avoid water stagnation, which would cause asphyxiation of the roots.
  • Always prefer to soil rich and humus with the addition of fertilizing elements rather than a «cheap» potting soil.
  • Water regularly your dishes hot if it isn’t raining because evaporation is greater in this confined environment.
  • If a cold spell is expected, wrap the more fragile plants in a winter blanket to protect them.
  • Remember to protect your chrysanthemums by bringing the pots into a well-lit room with little or no heating.

Stellar massif

The aster it is undoubtedly the protagonist flower of autumn. Combine it with some warm colored perennials and you can create a sumptuous decor around your home:

  • At the bottom of the bed, plant hydrangeas with brown leaves as a decorative base.
  • Install three large stars in the foreground.
  • They alternate with rustic and highly developed fuchsia plants (Fuchsia richartonii) and with red sage (Salvia elegans) and mallow (Salvia guaranitica) plants.

Rustica’s advice for Jardideco: From next summer you will prune the tips of the shoots of your asters to encourage branching and therefore obtain more compact and flowering plants.

White stews

As the gardens light up with the red and orange colors of autumn, we suggest creating a contrast with a scene that uses white as the main theme.

  • Plant 3 white autumn asters in rounded pots.
  • Add a large white chrysanthemum on a stem in a slim, square vase for contrast.
  • Place everything in a row in front of a shrub with purple or brown foliage such as a Japanese maple or dogwood with very red stems.

Rustica’s advice for Jardideco: Asters can form large clumps over the years. Remember to divide them every 3 years to multiply them and give them a little boost of vigor.

Vegetables on the program

  • some beautiful ornamental cabbage plants.
  • On the ground, insert a few pots of asters, heathers and pansies between old tin watering cans.

Rustica’s advice for Jardideco: Choose only terracotta vases but of various sizes and shapes in order to create a contrast while maintaining a common thread.

Glittering flowerbed edges

Color accords and warm tones are in the spotlight this October!

A Cotinus Coggyna ‘Grace’ will serve as the basis for the decor of the massif. Its purple foliage turns a delicate orange hue in autumn.

  • Choose bright yellow pots of different sizes.
  • In the larger one, place a Japanese chrysanthemum with small copper-colored flowers.
  • In smaller pots, install a small bright red cyclamen, then a pale pink aster.
  • Frame the large chrysanthemum with these two plants and place everything in front of the Cotinus to complete the picture.

A golden cape to highlight the reliefs

For this floral scene, equip yourself with 3 identical large stylized terracotta pots:

  • Plant 3 beautiful tufts of small-flowered yellow chrysanthemums in the pots.
  • Place a pot on each step to create a repeating effect.
  • If your ladder is longer, intersperse beautiful specimens of Spectabile Sedums to create a color contrast.

Rustica’s advice for Jardideco: Taking care of chrysanthemums is very simple… just regularly cut off the withered flowers and yellowed foliage.
