We’re always inventing something new – I mean you and me: readers, course participants, everyone who watches «Yellow Wheelbarrow» on YouTube, who calls just to ask something. I’m like a sucker, I absorb all the questions and then try various ways to answer them, such as helping to experience the yard more beautifully and easily.
So I look for people who have the desire and experience so that I can trust them to lead you towards that vision of a more beautiful construction site.
This is how our new 2019 gardening courses are born, and how our various other projects are born.
Where and how the «Yellow Wheelbarrow» will travel this year, I have chosen the following directions:
1. More examples
This year I decided to show more beautiful construction sites made in Lithuania, to present more designers, to show changes in the construction sites of our course participants, etc.
And I’m about to start: in this video you will see the impressions of Audrius from Vilnius, how his garden changed when the lawn and plants were grouped differently:
In this video I explained how to change the look of your garden without spending a lot of money. You can also read those phases, I wrote in the article «The lawn as a design element: changes in the garden without spending». It’s nice that Audrius was so happy to sit in his rocking chair in the middle of the yard and tell his impressions. I really enjoy seeing real stories of garden and flowerbed transformations, I hope you do too?
2. More ecology and less work
Here’s my second direction for this year. I will show various natural ways, we will look at such questions that cause various contradictions.
Without excluding planning, this year we start with the new course «My naturalistic flower garden», led by landscape professional Vaiva Marozienė. We can be proud that Lithuania already has enough beautiful «Dutch wave» stylistic vegetation, so we would like to invite you to create a modern naturalistic flower garden in your garden too.
Even if you’re just starting out, it will be a great introduction to perennials of this style and clear rules as to why a flower garden «works itself.»
When ecology and design go together, with the addition of a little love, then a pleasant creative process is guaranteed.
3. More knowledge in less time
This is truly news that I have kept for years. Every spring someone keeps calling me and asking if it’s possible to get concentrated information quickly and in quantity. Finally, this year we decided and created a 1 week intensive training»Landscape Academywhich are intended for:
- for those who want to change profession;
- for those starting to work in landscaping;
- for new employees of landscaping companies;
- for beginner landscape designers.
In other words, for those who want to start the season with a more in-depth knowledge base.
A small group, three specialists, many practical topics – the benefits are guaranteed, just take it and absorb the knowledge. If you don’t have time to study for several years, these training courses are ideal.
4. For those who don’t have much attention
We are starting a new topic for those who don’t have their own garden, but love plants no less. Or: you want to love, but you lack knowledge. We will develop this topic not only with articles and videos, but also with the course «Designing my balcony», which will be conducted by 2 teachers! Engineer and grower Gytis Lietvaitis will help you create an elegant balcony or terrace design, while greenery specialist Vaiva Marozienė will teach you the secrets of plants.
The landscaping course «Designing my balcony» consists of several parts in which you will create a collage specific to your situation. The teachers will guide you on how to choose furniture, where to place it, show you the choices of color palettes, suitable plant options: you will put everything together and discuss it already during the course.
OR all landscaping courses in 2019 – we have already announced registration for various course programs in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Šiauliai, click to see:
We invite you to take a look. In all training courses, small groups and attention to the practical application of knowledge.
5. Spread the word about modern greening more widely
From the first days of the «yellow wheelbarrow», I have not forgotten the main direction in which the wheelbarrow is moving: to popularize modern greening, to encourage and inspire, to set changes in motion. I am therefore extremely happy to have been lucky enough to train consultants from various garden centers in 2018: after all, they are the ones who give advice on choosing plants when you can get lost in their abundance. When sellers of garden products know more about their real use, landscaping trends and their application, then we can take a few steps forward and expect more modern solutions in private plots.
We got off to a great start with training in active communities and, even more interestingly, with representatives of municipalities and councils. We leave these training courses with a smile and with the feeling of having sown the seeds for a more modern environment in that area.
We look forward to such training courses again this year. On design, on farm landscaping, on plants, on garden tools, other tools – our teachers have prepared fun and engaging programs on various topics and adapt them according to the needs of a specific group. If you want to collaborate, we look forward to your letters – lina@geltonaskarutis.lt.
6. Less work, without sacrificing beauty
This will be the main theme of this year’s environmental design conference «Garden Style». It hasn’t been formulated exactly yet, maybe I’ll come up with something that sounds better. But that’s exactly the idea.
The inspiration came to me from an idea I heard during the presentations of world-famous designers, where I attended a conference in Great Britain. Some of them say that it is not possible to keep an environment beautiful for a long time if the design is effective and the creator has a spark of talent. It is necessary, but not only. The environment will be beautiful when it is maintained and not neglected. As much as we would like to, we cannot guarantee that in a few years we will still have to look after our health intensively (even if we are really determined to do so now). It’s the same for public gardens: no matter how beautiful the project is, who knows if in 3 or 5 years sufficient funds will be allocated for its maintenance, perhaps three governments will have already changed.
Therefore, maintaining the beauty of the environment depends first and foremost on… ease of maintenance. The less attention you need and the simpler the care, the greater the chances that such greenery will remain beautiful for a long time.
And how to do it: we’ll talk about it at the «Garden Style» conference. We’ll share tons of tips and show lots of practical examples of how low-maintenance, yet still environmental beauty has been created.
Mark your calendars – in 2019 on August 24thin Vilnius. More details coming soon. As always, newsletter recipients will be the first to know (here’s the link if you haven’t received it yet).
7. More opportunities directly from home
Online landscaping courses: talk about it here. We’ve already filmed 2 shows, but the development process is so complicated and there are so few hands and heads that it took us a while
But I am very happy that this year we will finally start distance learning. So those who raise small children, who work shifts, who live outside Lithuania and those who simply find it more convenient will be able to gain knowledge. Therefore, in 2019 landscaping courses will be even more accessible.
9. More plants
Neither much nor little: all 100! I want to introduce everyone to beautiful, undemanding and reliable perennials. I’ve already accumulated quite a few photos, why not share them?
I will start the project from February 1st #100 plants On the Instagram account of «Geltona karuči». There, every day I will upload an undemanding perennial, I will talk about it a little useful and a little interesting.
Let’s hope for more interesting and new inspiration in the spring! 100 plants in 100 days: participate, make an offer, talk together!
In short
Or rather, for the beginning.
Thank you for being together all these years. Thank you for being there, for being interested, for commenting, for asking, for supporting.
Don’t stop. Call when you care, write when you’re not sure, watch when you want to get inspired, participate when you want to improve even more. And suggest what we could do better, or more, or simply differently.
