If you haven’t come across the name ledebury, I want to introduce it to you: ledebury are South African plants, better known in our lands as undemanding indoor flowers. Ledbury – Sounds like a spell, doesn’t it? This lack of effort is probably the origin of the magic of this houseplant: I believe that even beginners will cope well with the challenge of cultivation, because the flower does not require much maintenance and is really difficult to kill. If you don’t believe me, watch this video report, where you will see my first home flower ledeburia, which has seen both heat and cold in recent decades. I’ll show you what it looks like, how easy it is to transplant it, and the tools I use to ensure it has a happy life:
I will also share with you how I did everything step by step so that you too can transplant your first flowers without panic.
LEDBURI – WHAT ARE THEY?
Ledbury (amount. Ledebouria) is a representative of the hyacinth family. And from time to time it really accumulates small, pretty flowers. But the flowers are the least adorning of these beauties. Most often, ledeburys are grown for their distinctive leopard-print silver-green leaves, which reach a length of about 10 cm.
This indoor flower is very versatile both for its simple growing conditions and its style. With the help of several pots, ledeburiia will shine with different colors and become an accent not only in a traditional farmhouse, but also in a minimalist industrial loft.
Maybe this is precisely why ice cream has always found a place in my house. True, in my case the leaves could be much more expressive, wider and larger – it remains to create happier conditions for this plant and the goal will be achieved quickly.
PREPARATION FOR TRANSPLANTING THIS EASY HOME FLOWER
First of all, I prepared all the tools I will need to transplant the Ledbury:
- Protective cover maintain order (not necessary, but convenient);
- Potsin which I will plant;
- Drainage layer: I use expanded clay granules;
- Substrate for indoor plants (substrate for succulents or cacti is also suitable);
- Agroperlites.
It is important that the soil is conductive, so I use a simple houseplant substrate and mix it agroperlituwhich will not allow water to stagnate and the roots will be able to breathe easily. For bulbs, insufficient humidity is nothing and overwatering can be disastrous. I have to admit that I forgot to water my ledeburi a hundred times, and it’s as green as it gets. Like I said, a great houseplant for beginners.
- «Plant-I-boost» fertilizer – I choose organic ones, we’ll talk about it later;
- Water for watering.
TRANSPLANT PROCESS
- Water the plant you plan to transplant. The humidity of the transplanted plant and the humidity of the new soil must be similar;
- Mix the substrate, agroperlite and fertilizer. It is possible to add Agroperlite up to 30%. of the entire volume and a small handful of fertilizer. It is these fertilizers that are difficult to multiply, so there is no need to scrupulously measure. Plant-I-Boost fertilizer breaks down slowly, so it will work better closer to the plant’s roots.
- Free the plant from the old pot and carefully separate the best bulbs from each other (it is possible to separate them into larger groups, then you can transplant them into larger bulbs);
- If you have time and kindness, clean the bulbs, remove dry leaves or old flowers. The plant will refresh in an instant;
- Add a layer of expanded clay granules to the bottom of the pot. Good drainage is half the battle;
- Pour a mixture of plant substrate, agroperlite and fertilizer. Leave space at the top of the pot for convenient watering later;
- The bulbs prefer to be slightly above the ground. Plant about a third of the bulb into the soil and press lightly around the bulb with your fingers to secure it. It is very important at the time of transplanting to ensure that the roots of the plant are not bent upwards, it is better to shorten them a little if they are very elongated;
- To prevent the humidity from evaporating so quickly, expanded clay granules can be added;
- Run it.
You can plant Ledburys with single bulbs, but for a quick lush effect, I recommend planting more densely. Ledburys will also look great in an elegant composition with succulents.
FERTILIZERS I HAVE USED
Bulbous plants don’t need much fertilizer, but I wanted to give them life. Plant-I-Boost organic fertilizer is the ideal choice in this case. Made in Lithuania with completely natural ingredients, they contain a blend of all the most necessary elements.
This fertilizer is perfect not only for indoor plants, but also for outdoor flowers, greenhouse vegetables and open ground.
Plant-I-Boost organic fertilizers release nitrogen slowly, so the fertilizer will last a long time and the effect is very gentle. This is one of the reasons it is difficult to overdose. You can’t go wrong with them, which is why I highly recommend them for beginners caring for their first houseplants.
Even for those who claim they can kill immortal plants, I suggest a combination of Ledbury fertilizer and Plant-I-Boost. I don’t know what could go wrong, unless you overwater it and leave it soaking in a puddle of water.
Try it and write it in the comments.
Thanks to Plant-I-Boost for your cooperation and for bringing my ledebury back to life. You can find these fertilizers in the shops «DEPO», «Žalia Stotelė», «Senukai», «Horticom» and «Moki Veži».
